Museum of the Bavarian KingsLocated below the Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau castles on the shores of the Alpsee lake, this must be one of the most beautifully situated museums in GermanyThe Museum of the Bavarian Kings was opened in Hohenschwangau in September 2011. It relates the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty from its beginnings to the present day.
At the centre of the exhibition is King Maximilian II who commissioned the conversion of Hohenschwangau Castle into his summer residence, and his son, King Ludwig II, creator of Neuschwanstein Castle.
