2022 Passionplay in Oberammergau
about 40 km away from our village Schwangau
The Passionplay has been performed since 1634 as a tradition by the inhabitants of the village of Oberammergau, Bavaria, Germany. The town's residents vowed that if God spared them from the bubonic plague ravaging the region, they would perform a play every ten years for all time, depicting the life and death of Jesus.
About half of the inhabitants of Oberammergau take part in this once-a-decade Passion Play. This means that every ten years, over 2.000 villagers, including about 550 children, bring the story of Jesus of Nazareth to life to the audience that flocks in from around the world.
The play starts with Jesus entering Jerusalem, continues with His Death on the Cross and finishes with the Resurrection.
