Neuschwanstein Castle - Hotel Das Rübezahl

    Neuschwanstein Castle

With 1.3 million visitors per year, Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the world’s top tourist attractions.

World-famous fairytale castle – explore the eighth wonder of the world!

Schwangau, the village of the royal castles, has great historical and cultural significance. In 1868 King Ludwig designed a new castle in Hohenschwangau, today’s Neuschwanstein Castle. The foundation stone was laid on 5 September 1869. The romantic hotel Das Rübezahl is located right by Neuschwanstein Castle.

Visit Neuschwanstein and see for yourself the splendour, beauty and uniqueness of this castle. Guided tours of King Ludwig II’s fairytale castle are offered daily and are extremely popular. We will be happy to arrange tickets for Neuschwanstein Castle for our guests in advance. All you have to do is let us know by 3:00 p.m. on the day before you want to visit the castle.

Neuschwanstein Castle is one of the main attractions in the Allgäu. It is located only two kilometres from the hotel, in Schwangau near Füssen.

Guided tours of Neuschwanstein Castle are offered in German and English and take approx. 30 minutes. Additional languages are also possible via audio guide: these tours also take about 30 minutes and are offered in Japanese, French, Spanish, Italian, Czech, Slovenian, Russian, Polish, Chinese (Mandarin), Portuguese and Hungarian.

Schwangau traditions - Hotel Das Rübezahl

    Schwangau traditions

From the cattle drive, traditional costume society evenings and the Coloman’s festival with Coloman’s ride – the unofficial Schwangau “bank holiday” – there is plenty on offer here.

Coloman’s festival with Coloman’s ride The Coloman's festival with the Coloman’s ride takes place in Schwangau every second Sunday in October. Enjoy an unforgettable experience of this tradition with the magnificently decorated horses and the beautiful church of St. Coloman in the open landscape. Cattle drive in Schwangau The cattle drive, or Alpabtrieb in German, takes place in Schwangau in mid-September. The young cattle are driven back to the valley after the short summer on the Alp. If the summer has passed without any accidents or casualties, the young animals are festively decorated and adorned for the drive down to the valley.

Füssen old town with high castle - Hotel Das Rübezahl

Füssen old town with high castle

Füssen is known as the romantic soul of Bavaria. Renowned for its beautiful old town.

Füssen in the Allgäu is 3 km away from Schwangau and our hotel Das Rübezahl.
The city on the Romantic Road is known for its historical roots that stretch back over two millennia. As the highest town in Bavaria, Füssen is surrounded by imposing high mountain peaks, rolling Allgäu hills and lakes.

Füssen is famous for its Festival Hall, where a wide variety of musicals, operettas, concerts and ballets are regularly performed.

The old town and the historical town centre lend the town its romantic character. Stroll through the narrow streets and treat yourself to a coffee or a regional speciality on Reichstraße. Only a few steps from the centre of the town and you are in the midst of lush greenery. Culture and nature perfectly combined.

Hohenschwangau Castle - Hotel Das Rübezahl

    Hohenschwangau Castle

The summer residence of the Bavarian kings. Surrounded by the Schwansee and Alpsee lakes.

Hohenschwangau Castle is directly opposite Neuschwanstein Castle in the municipality of Schwangau. The romantic, neo-Gothic style palace was completed between 1832 and 1836 and served as a summer residence for the royal family of King Maximilian II of Bavaria. King Ludwig II also enjoyed happy times here as a child and young man. The castle, the surrounding castle park and the entire interior decoration from the Biedermeier period have been preserved almost unchanged. The castle can be visited daily. We will be happy to get hold of tickets for our hotel guests if they let us know by 3:00 p.m. on the day before they want to visit the castle.

Linderhof Castle - Hotel Das Rübezahl

    Linderhof Castle

King Ludwig II’s smallest castle with a particularly beautiful garden is a popular destination in Bavaria.

Linderhof Palace in the Upper Bavarian municipality of Ettal

In the Graswang valley, just under 45 km from the hotel Das Rübezahl, lies the small, imposing and luxuriously appointed Linderhof Palace. The palace presents itself to its visitors with glittering mirrors and gleaming gold, crystal chandeliers, oppulent velvet and porcelain.

Impressive sights in the artistically landscaped garden are the old royal lime tree on the high seat of which the king once had breakfast, the Moorish kiosk with the peacock throne, the Moroccan House and the Hunding’s Hut.

An artificial grotto with a waterfall and lake is also hidden behind a rocky cliff. The grotto can be heated and electrically illumnated. Artificial waves were created on the lake. State-of-the-art technology to make royal dreams come true!

Linderhof Palace – a great destination on your holiday in the Allgäu.
