Neuschwanstein Castle is finally a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
A king leaves his footprints
King Ludwig II, affectionately known by us as "Kini", left behind much more than just magnificent buildings with his palaces. He transformed his visions and dreams into architecture, escaping the reality of his time and creating his own world instead. A world that fascinates millions of visitors today and which UNESCO has now classified as particularly worthy of protection.
What these four castles have in common is their uniqueness: Neuschwanstein as a romantic ideal of chivalry, Linderhof as an intimate refuge in the French style, Herrenchiemsee as a Bavarian Versailles - and the Schachen, in the middle of the Ammergau Alps, impresses with its oriental ceremonial hall.
It is a cultural ensemble that shows how far dreams can reach and how much courage it takes to follow them.
"For us, Neuschwanstein is more than just a sight"
For us at Hotel Das Rübezahl, Neuschwanstein is not just a neighbor or a photo motif. It is part of our everyday life, our history and our identity.
Many of our guests are drawn to Schwangau for precisely this reason - to experience the fairytale castle, not just to see it. Some hike to the bridge "Marienbrücke", others climb up to our mountain hut "Rohrkopfhütte", from where there is a wonderful view of the castle - without any crowds and in complete peace and quiet. As an additional highlight, you will also discover the second royal castle Hohenschwangau along the way, which had a strong influence on Ludwig as a child and is considered one of his most popular weekend homes.
But King Ludwig's other castles also deserve special attention. UNESCO World Heritage Site Linderhof Palace in particular, the smallest of the three magnificent palaces, is easily accessible from us on a day trip. The drive there leads through a picturesque landscape, past lakes, another UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Wieskirche - and through dense forests. Once you arrive, a rococo jewel shines before you: magnificently designed, with a spacious castle park and the famous and newly opened Venus Grotto.
A special moment - for the entire region
The UNESCO award makes it clear how rich our homeland is in terms of cultural heritage. At the same time, it shows that visions can survive for centuries if people value and preserve them.
Personally, I am delighted that we can offer our guests an unobstructed view of the castles from the hotel and thus perhaps also support a dream or two. After all, King Ludwig II and his royal castles still symbolize that it is worth following his visions against all odds!
